Improve Your Diet with Juice
The Foodie Friends have borrowed a juicer to experiment with tasty and healthy combinations of fruit, vegetables and other supplements. As summer begins, we’re looking for healthier foods and drinks to keep us cool while also keeping our calories in count! We’ll be sure to share our experience and tasty combos we have tried, but in the mean time here are some tasty recipes we plan on starting with.
Early Riser Juice
2 large carrots or 20 baby carrots
1 medium apple of the sweeter variety such as Honeycrisp or Pink Lady or Fuji
1 large orange
1/2 pear
1/2 lemon
Immune Booster
1 (14-ounce) grapefruit, peeled and cut into chunks
2 medium oranges (10 ounces total), peeled and cut into chunks
3 kiwis (preferably golden, about 12 ounces total), peeled and cut into chunks
Directions
Peel the fruit and cut into sizable chunks. In a blender or juicer combine grapefruit, oranges, and kiwis.
If using a blender, blend the ingredients and scrape down sides occasionally, until smooth. Strain juice and, if desired, thin with water. Mixer is good in the refrigerator for up to 2 days (shake before serving).
If using a juicer, turn juicer on and combine ingredients together through juicer. The immune booster is perfect to perk up your body and give yourself a natural lift in improving your health.
Carrot Pineapple Orange Juice
1 small orange
1/8 small, ripe pineapple
2 carrots
Juice of 1/2 lemon
Directions
Scrub the carrots clean. Remove the pineapple rind. Slice the orange and seed the orange, but leave the rind on. Core the pineapple and cut into pieces sizable for the juicer. Turn juicer on and combine all ingredients together except the lemon juice through juicer. Stir in the lemon juice at the end to taste. This combination of citrus and carrots is perfect for a hot summer day.
Green Monster
6 kale leaves
2 cups spinach
1/2 cucumber
4 celery stalks
2 apples
1 (1-inch) piece of ginger
Directions
Turn juicer on and combine ingredients together through juicer. Pro tip: If you want a sweeter juice, don’t add sugar. Add an apple instead!
